“Canibalism: It Still Exists” By: Linh Kieu Ngo pg.101

Ngo writes on the concept of Cannibalism and how it still exhists in many different forms today.  His intro catches the reader’s attention and explores the topic further.  He then leads into  a story about people stranded on a boat with no food or water.  He explains the idea of cannibalism as a survival tactic.  They only ate the other humans after they were dead, because they needed food in order to survive.  He then transitions into  “dietary cannibalism” in which human flesh is used in a cultural aspect.  He also provides an example to explain this type of cannibalism.  Finally he introduces it for religious or ritual purposes.  He finds examples that will interest the readers.  He keeps the reader involved and leaves them wanting to learn more.

Love: The Right Chemistry By: Anastasia Toufexis p.106

This essay was written on the concept of “Love.”  It appeals to the reader because it talks about love in a different way than most of us think about love.  The author speaks about love as a science, specifically chemistry.  She talks about how love has been a work of science since the beginning of time.  What is interesting is how she explains it changes over time.  Passion/romance didnt really exist until man stood up on four legs and all genitals were exposed. From that grew relationships.  She then explains that people get tired of each other after three years unless they have kids.  The more kids they have the longer they stay together.  She explains how all of this is caused by chemicals in the body.  Its was really interesting to see how love really is a chemical reaction.
